Roundabout Verwood & Three Legged Cross February 2020

Monday, February 10th, 2020

Dear readers,

On page 10 in this issue we have an interesting and topical article about songs with a story and how they have declined over the years. The recent TV drama about Christine Keeler and the Profumo Affair of 1963 comes to mind and in particular the excellent 1989 film with its theme song ‘Nothing has been proved’ written by the Pet Shop Boys featuring the one and only Dusty Springfield.

Very clever lyrics beautifully sung by Dusty who was a child of the ‘60s too so an inspired choice! The chorus of ‘Please please me’s number 1’ is a nice touch. An excellent film with Stephen Ward played by the talented John Hurt but an even more excellent theme, in my view.

These days it seems the stories play second fiddle to the videos. Michael Jackson’s 1982 ‘Thriller’ is a classic example and Katy Perry’s 2011 ‘Last Friday Night’ is also one of my favourites! Both a real scream!

Recently board games and card games seem to have had a huge renaissance with old and young alike! We have an article on page 36 describing a few new children’s games such as Exploding Kittens! Sounds a bit harsh to me so no doubt it will be popular!

Finally, it’s that time of year when your boiler decides it’s time for a holiday – ours went AWOL this morning but hopefully will be back by the weekend!

So look in our Local Business Directory on page 46 to find a local tradesman for all those spring jobs like boiler servicing, chimney sweeping and carpet cleaning etc that have been put off from last year!
