Roundabout Verwood & Three Legged Cross August 2019

Thursday, August 1st, 2019

Dear readers,

Sadly our last issue saw the end of the Past and Present series of articles featuring many old photos and extracts from Jill Coulthard’s excellent book “Verwood Village to Town”.

This marvellous publication which is a mine of information about Verwood places and Verwood people is still available from the Verwood Heathland Heritage Centre.

Amazingly Past & Present articles have been featured in every issue of Roundabout Verwood since we started publishing the magazine 15 years ago. Fortunately all the old articles can still be found at www.roundaboutmags.co.uk under the heading articles/news. We hope you found them all as fascinating as I have and of course our thanks goes to Jill for supplying a copy of the original pics – usually at very short notice!

Nevertheless we will still be including historical articles in your magazine for all you history buffs but they will be of rather more general subjects. This issue’s on page 6 tells us about the beginnings of the package holidays – one of the 1st in the UK in 1841 was organised by a certain Mr Thomas Cook unsurprisingly!

Alternatively if you are having a staycation instead of a package this year then have a look at our What’s On pages 26 and 28 or our website for lots of local events to amuse the children and other halves.

If you would like more members in your club or society, and/or would like us to publish your news, articles or future events, then simply e-mail the details to: info@roundaboutmags.co.uk
