Roundabout East Dorset October 2017

Dear readers,

On page 6 in this issue we have a brand new historical feature article called “Ferndown before the Bulldozers” which I hope those of you who think of Ferndown as a town will find fascinating. Like me, many of you have probably never realised that Ferndown was of course originally just a small village with gravel roads, a scattering of shops and certainly no traffic lights!

Each article will give us a fascinating glimpse of a village in transition during the past 60 years. This issue’s article tells us about Ferndown’s 1st lady Firefighter and the Fire Engine that caught fire! Ooops!

Unfortunately this issue sees the last in our stories of rescued cats since we have published all of Patricia’s current stories. “Viewed From My Window” encompassed all the ups and downs and highs and lows of caring for stray cats and will be missed by many of our readers who are animal lovers out there – my husband for one! Patricia’s book is still available though so look for the details on page 16. Maybe we’ll be treated to an occasional feature in the future as I believe another cat has recently arrived!

October 29th sees the clocks go back so a good idea to get out in the country before then! For local events and activities check out our What’s On pages 22 and 24 or our website. If you would like more members in your club or society, and/or would like us to publish your news, articles or future events, then simply e-mail the details to:
