Roundabout Ringwood August 2018

Dear readers

For me the highlight of the annual Ringwood calendar of events is always the Carnival which is on September 15th this year.

Our cover pic is taken from a marvellous tableau from last year celebrating the Mexican ‘Day of the Dead’ which unlike our Halloween, actually celebrates and honours deceased friends and family with a carnivalesque atmosphere and the belief that death is simply a continuation of the life cycle. So quite a jolly event really despite appearances! I wonder what weird and wonderful themes we will have this year!

Another weird and wonderful event is featured on page 10. It tells us about another very quirky and surprisingly long established and ancient British tradition of well-dressing or well-flowering! I have never heard of it I must admit and had to Google it to find out more after reading the article! Very big in the Midlands.

Weird and wonderful also sums up our local scarecrow competition – Bisterne’s is from 12- 27 August this year and of course the Ellingham Show, another very popular event is on 11th August.

There are many more local events happening all round us during August and September – check out our What’s On pages 26 & 28 for more details. Hopefully the sunshine lasts just a bit longer during the school holidays!

Finally if you need some professional help with some of those gardening and diy projects that you have been putting off till the summer, then look in our ‘Local Business Directory’ on page 46 and save yourself time and most importantly – money!
