Roundabout Ringwood December 2019

Dear readers

Twenty years ago at Christmas in 1999 Mike Patterson was photographed serving customers in his Butcher’s shop in Ringwood High Street with a very festive window which is this issue’s cover photo. His Butcher’s shop is also featured in our December Now and Then article on page 6.

Today his children run the business but you may still be lucky and catch him helping them out in the shop selecting your traditional Christmas turkey for you!

In this Christmas issue we have a fascinating article on page 30 explaining all sorts of other Christmas traditions and their seemingly obscure beginnings – many of which seem to have sadly lost their true meaning. Chocolate advent calendars being one! The inevitable march of technology with Texts and emails etc are also sadly replacing the seasonal greetings cards which to me are also all part of the Christmas tradition of keeping in touch with friends and family far and wide.

Fortunately Ringwood’s traditional annual Christmas Eve carols in the Market Place is always a great way to put you in the festive mood and seems to get bigger each year! It’s a very sociable occasion as the whole town seems to turn up!

Don’t forget if you want to treat a loved one AND help local businesses, look in here first in the ‘Local Business Directory’ on page 46!

Finally my team and I would like to wish all our readers and advertisers old and new the very warmest of festive greetings for this Christmas and the New Year.
