Roundabout Verwood January 2012

Dear readers

I’ll bet we had an earlier Christmas dinner celebration than any of our readers last year! Can anyone beat November 21st? Exceedingly premature I must admit, but since our son was due to spend seven weeks surfing in Bali and was flying out of London Airport the following morning, I feel it was more than justified!  Between us we managed to create a memorable festive roast dinner with all the trimmings, crackers, mince pies and my husband even dug out his favourite Christmas Carol CD to accompany proceedings! I hope all the effort was appreciated but no doubt it just confirmed to our youngsters that all parents are decidedly weird – and even more so at this time of year!

I hope this issue’s cover reminds you how different the weather was just over a year ago – the photo of Ferrett Green was taken on December 2nd 2010 and the snow and cold weather hung around for weeks. Let’s hope for a milder winter to keep our energy costs right down for a change.

Speaking of keeping costs down, if you are a small business and thinking of advertising have a look at our mini ads on page 45 which are gaining in popularity and can cost as little as £2 per week.

This issue’s Past & Present on page 6 refers to the inhabitants of a village very near Verwood as “preferring to spend their Sundays in drinking and fighting”. Nothing new there then! (Only joking of course!)

Page 36 relates the trials and tribulations of Miss Misty’s brother, Kiqui which is part 5 of our feral cat short stories.

As always, when you need a job done or want to treat yourself, look in here first to see what is available locally – save yourself time, fuel and most importantly at the moment – money!
