Roundabout Verwood & Three Legged Cross August 2018

Dear readers,

This year the 25th Verwood Rustic Fayre is on Monday August 27th and is always a lot of fun with lots to see and do for everyone. It’s one of my favourite local days out on a bike too.

I follow the pleasant leafy Castleman Trailway from home before following signs to Moors Valley Country Park, stopping for the obligatory coffee of course! Then continue through the park to arrive at the Rustic Fayre via Potterne Park. An excellent traffic-free route with no queues and very green!

Our cover photo taken at a recent Fayre is of a quirky little blue 1960s Messerschmitt three wheeled bubble car. These were produced when the popularity of motor bikes was waning and enabled those with only a motor bike licence to keep warm and dry in a tiny and economical car! Some of these had a max speed of 90mph – a very scary thought if you have ever sat in one!

In this issue page 10 tells us about another very quirky and surprisingly long established and ancient British tradition of well-dressing or well-flowering! I have never heard of it I must admit and had to Google it to find out more after reading the article! Seems it’s big in the Midlands though – very much like our local scarecrow competitions.

Of course there are many more local events happening all round us during August and September – check out our What’s On pages 26 & 28 for more details. Hopefully the sunshine lasts just a bit longer during the school holidays!
