Roundabout Verwood & Three Legged Cross December 2018

Dear readers,

Recently my daughter visited a Christmas grotto in a Garden Centre but said that she still doesn’t feel very Christmassy! Well – it was only the end of October! So I thought the photo on this issue’s cover which was taken in December a few years back if you recall should help to put you all in the mood!

The inevitable Christmas round robins are a bit like marmite – you either love them or hate them! Our 1st one arrives right at the beginning of December from my husband’s elderly aunt who emigrated to New Zealand in the ‘70s. A lovely hand written letter which to me signals the start of our season when we keep in touch with many old friends and members of the family we rarely see but still like that annual point of contact!

And despite all the various forms of social media which are used these days, to receive a card with a well written letter in the post means so much more I think than just a vague throw away txt or similar.

Which wouldn’t be possible of course without our excellent Postal Service. A really fascinating potted history is on page 36 and believe it or not scam letters (similar to today’s scam emails) were around in the 1870s. Nothing new there then! Page 43 also lists the last posting dates for Christmas.

There are lots of festive themed articles inside and if like me you want to treat a loved one AND help local businesses, look in here first in the ‘Local Business Directory’ on page 46!

Finally my team and I would like to wish all our readers and advertisers old and new the very warmest of festive greetings for this Christmas and the New Year.
