Roundabout Verwood & Three Legged Cross December 2019

Dear readers,

What a disappointing Autumn we have had this year with very little of the usual glorious technicoloured hues in the countryside. It just seemed to rain and rain and rain! So much so that 30 shoppers became marooned in Meadowhall Shopping Centre in Sheffield during November – imagine that girls! We visited IKEA in Southampton on the same day and my husband was very relieved not to have ended up in the same predicament!

Since this is our Christmas issue we have lots of seasonal articles inside starting with Christmas Traditions on page 6 with explanations of how many of our current ‘traditions’ came to be. Many and varied it seems although some seem to have lost their way over the years like chocolate advent calendars for instance! But I think the more modern mince pies without the minced lamb is definitely a step in the right direction!

One of this country’s favourite Christmas traditions is going to a Panto – see page 40 for an explanation of this most peculiar British tradition. One where cross dressing was de rigueur since it was actually illegal for women to act in theatres before 1660. Fortunately the tradition of men dressed as Widow Twanky or the Ugly Sisters is still maintained which all adds to the fun!

So if you want to treat a loved one this Christmas AND help local businesses, look in here first in the ‘Local Business Directory’ on page 46!

Finally my team and I would like to wish all our readers and advertisers old and new the very warmest of festive greetings for this Christmas and the New Year.
