Roundabout Verwood & Three Legged Cross June 2018

Dear readers,

Despite record breaking temperatures during May this year, most of you will realise that this spring was the coldest for more than 30 years. Creating many expected and also some unexpected knock on effects!

Some of these unexpected effects include apple trees which have stored more energy than usual creating thick blossom and hence an apple bonanza later in the year, an increase in car repair insurance claims from more pot holes, rocketing sales in slippers, duvets and nightwear but a 53% slump during March in fake tan products!

The upside of the cold weather is that many flowers that bloom weeks apart bloomed all at the same time this year and our daffs seemed to go on forever!

Hopefully the fine weather will continue into June for a bit as we have booked a week’s cycling holiday in Herefordshire! ‘Flaming June’ unfortunately seems to be a thing of the past in recent years – so we will be armed with full wet weather gear!

If the sun does decide to hang around then camping is a lot of fun, especially with children. Our article on page10 gives you lots of ideas especially if open air concerts are your thing.

And if your spring cleaning and decorating plans have gone to pot this year like ours have because of the strange weather, then look in our ‘Local Business Directory’ on page 46 for all those handy trades people to get you up to speed with this year’s projects.
