Roundabout Verwood & Three Legged Cross October 2018

Dear readers,

Summer finally cooled down and we are now entering what hopefully will be another very colourful autumn – although we are still very short of any prolonged rainfall and many of us will still be doing a bit of watering in the garden!

This issue’s ‘Quirky Britain’ article on page 40 is a very seasonal one and is all about our strange predilection for subversive Bonfire night celebrations where risk and excitement are still prevalent!

To me it seems to signify the annual celebration of the final passing of summer into autumn and the approaching onset of winter with a final outdoor get together until the festive season is upon us in what seems like a couple of months time.

Speaking about bonfires and in particular heat – I had our central heating boiler serviced and repaired recently ready for winter as it had been out of action for a couple of weeks and was playing up a bit. Fortunately this threw up a couple of additional unforeseen faults which could have been very unpleasant in the depths of another snow bound winter like last year!

So look in here first in the ‘Local Business Directory’ on page 46 for a local heating expert if you have been putting your boiler service off all summer!

And as far as those bonfires and many other autumn outdoor events go – check out our What’s On pages 26 & 28 for more details.
